Mars Drinks celebrates female Associates for International Women’s Day

March 8th is International Women’s Day and we’re celebrating some of our fantastic female Associates from Mars Drinks.

Christina Smalarz - Senior Project Manager, Mars Drinks USA (WCR)

What are you proud of as a woman working at Mars?

I’m most proud that Mars engages and challenges you to be the best version of yourself, both personally and professionally. Mars has given me an opportunity to take on challenging new projects and advanced roles I never imagined were possible. Mars was there to encourage and enable completing my MBA. When I had my son 19 months ago, Mars was there every step of the way providing excellent healthcare, schedule flexibility and amazing support when I returned after leave. They say it takes a village to raise a child - I have to agree and know that my village includes my amazing husband and family, as well as my Mars work family.

Why is celebrating International Women’s Day important to you personally?
I think back to my amazing grandmother, “Babci”, who always encouraged my education and career. When she would describe the working world she lived in, it is amazing to realize how far and how quickly things have changed. I think celebrating International Women’s Day is an acknowledgement of all the amazing women who you have been inspired by and to challenge you and all the wonderful women you know to be their very best version.

Ines Heise, European Marketing Director (VDN)

What are you proud of as a woman working at Mars?
No matter what your role is, Mars appreciates diversity and recruits Associates based on capabilities not on gender, religion, race, lifestyle etc. At Mars everyone is treated equally no matter what her/his background or position in the organization might be. Mars values the advantages of diversity and strives to have women equally represented in management positions. I’m proud that in our recently established European Management Team in Drinks half of us are women.

Why is celebrating International Women’s Day important to you personally?
Even though I don’t really celebrate International Women’s Day myself as it’s not so common in Germany, I find it important to constantly raise awareness and remind people of the fact that women all over the world are still not treated equally, both in their private and professional lives. Even though my home country Germany is very advanced with regards to equal rights for women, there are still gaps, for example in the area of wages between men and women doing exactly the same job. This is why an “Equal Pay Day” has been established in Germany some years ago. We can be proud that something like this would not happen at Mars where pay is linked to a role, independent of the job owner’s gender. Happy Women’s Day!

Carrie Anderson, European P&O Director Mars Drinks (FSQ)

What are you proud of as a woman working at Mars?
Being a women working in Mars makes me very Proud, I’ve been given so many opportunities to learn and grow. I enjoy coming to work every day as I feel valued and our company culture makes me feel part of a big family. I would like to say a big thank you to Mars, Incorporated for making this such an amazing place to work.

Why is celebrating International Women’s Day important to you personally?
I think it’s really important that we celebrate IWD as over the years many ordinary women have played an extraordinary role in getting our voice heard and ensuring we have equal rights. It’s important we remember the past but also look to the future and how “we” (the women of today) can also make a difference.
